Common honey bees are actually not native to Australia, and were introduced from Europe in about 1822. This species is one of the few species which live in a hive, as most Australian Bees are solitary. Native Bees help our garden by pollinating flowers and increasing yield. They are important pollinators of Australia’s unique wildflowers and are a vital part of our Australian Bushland. It is important to protect native bees, because they are disappearing due to habitat loss and deforestation.
