Something a little unusual from our community garden – purple podded peas!
Do you remember gathering around a table to help your folks shell peas for dinner? This is something that happens less and less these days, with few people growing peas for shelling- especially seeing that they are so readily available in supermarkets, at such a low price.
We notice in our community garden that most people enjoy snow peas and young pea pods raw and freshly picked off the vine. This variety has a tough pod meaning that they’re for shelling only. They’re a bit unusual in that the flowers and pods are a lovely rich purple color.
They are an heirloom variety which have been part of our seed bank for the last few years.
Come and see!
